The Alston Moor Partnership was originally set up by local people in 2000. Its primary aim is to stimulate an entrepreneurial and self-reliant culture within Alston Moor. It has led a number of community initiatives since its start up, including setting up and managing the Alston Moor Community Chest Fund, which provides grants to local organisations. The first Business with Altitude event was a one day gathering in March 2004 exploring issues around social enterprise. The event was attended by around 60 people, representing the broad and diverse range of the social enterprise sector throughout the North of England.
